Governors State University is a minority-serving institution and emerging Hispanic-serving institution in the Chicago Southland region seeking to hire a cluster of full-time, tenure track positions at the rank of Assistant Professor in Computer Science. Positions will start on August 16, 2024. Qualified applicants will have an earned Master's degree in Computer Science or a related field, with industry experience and Ph.D. degrees preferred. We are seeking candidates as part of a cluster hire with expertise in one or more of the following areas:

●Artificial Intelligence
●Data Science
●Cloud Computing
●Quantum Computing
●3D Modelling and/or Game Design
●Robotics and/or Drones

The successful candidate will be expected to a) have outstanding teaching skills to teach and update undergraduate and graduate courses b) have experience working with non-traditional and diverse student populations c) assist with the development of academic program and assessment and d) participate in appropriate professional development including serving on committees, maintaining a strong record of scholarship, and cultivating good connections with industry partners. Located within the Division of Science, Mathematics and Technology, in the College of Arts and Sciences, the Computer Science program offers B.S. and M.S. degrees in Computer Science and post-baccalaureate certificates in Digital Analytics, Digital Forensics and Computer Programming. The dynamic and committed program faculty serve approximately 400 students at the undergraduate and graduate level, including both domestic and international students, as part of our mission to prepare students to succeed in a global society.

Governors State University is the only regional public comprehensive university in Chicago's south suburban area, serving more than 5,000 students annually. Every first-year class is taught by a full-time faculty member to ensure that students have a strong foundation for their studies. GSU is a national leader in successful transfer of community college students to universities, and is leading through the Dual Degree Program, with features such as tuition lock-in at GSU for academically eligible community college students who commit to earn an Associate Degree and attend college full-time. GSU offers a wide variety of master's programs and several applied doctoral degrees in health, counseling fields, and Interdisciplinary Leadership.

GSU's 750-acre campus encompasses the award-winning Nathan Manilow Sculpture Park yet is conveniently located within easy reach of Chicago and surrounding communities with a wealth of cultural and natural attractions. Required and Preferred Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

1. Master's degree in Computer Science or a related field.

2. Knowledge and ability to teach a wide range of undergraduate and graduate computer science courses.

3. Documented record of an ability to make intellectual contributions through scholarly publications/presentations consistent with the maintenance of AQ ("Academically Qualified") faculty status under accreditation standards.

4. Ability to complement the program's strengths.

Preferred Qualifications
1. Professional and/or managerial experience is highly desirable.

 
2. Teaching and/or professional experience in multiple areas.
 
3. Interest in and ability to develop and teach online (web-based) courses.
 
4. Ph.D. in Computer Science or a related field, or ABD in the final stages of completion in Computer Science or a related field.
 
5. Industry experience in multiple areas related to Computer Science and/or with industry-recognized certification(s).
 
6. Interest in and ability to teach some online courses.
 
7. Experience in teaching and advising non-traditional or diverse student populations.
 
8. Specialize in Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Large Language Models, Big Data, Data Science, Data Engineering, Cloud Computing, Quantum Computing, Human Machine Interface and Integration, Robotics, Drones, 3D Modelling, and/or Game Design.
 
9. Bilingual language proficiency (Spanish, Arabic or Hindi preferred).
