The School of Professional & Continuing Education (SPCE) at James Madison University invites applications for the position of dean to begin July 1.
SPCE delivers quality educational opportunities for individuals and communities by providing access to innovative and dynamic experiences for learners throughout their lives. Our mission is to advance JMU's vision by responding to individual, scholarly, business, and community needs through transformative educational programs and experiences.

• Adult Degree Program
• Certificate programs
• Lifelong Learning Institute
• Online Graduate Programs
• Programs for Non-Traditional Learners
• Professional Development
• Youth Programs
SPCE administers various graduate and undergraduate programs in partnership with colleges across the university and engages in university initiatives to extend educational opportunities to alumni and partners throughout the Commonwealth.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The successful candidate should be able to lead and manage the School of Professional & Continuing Education to provide vision, mission, personnel management, budget oversight and operations management. Other responsibilities include:
• Supporting Academic Affairs sustainability, adaptability and growth by advocating for non-traditional, pre-traditional, and post-traditional learners;
• Collaborating with deans and unit leaders across campus to develop sustainable new programs and partnerships;
• Leveraging alumni and corporate partner networks to develop and expand access to JMU educational programs in regions across the state in partnership with administration.
• Expanding workforce development initiatives through the creation of innovative and accessible educational programs and partnerships;
• Coordinating and expanding youth programs across campus, with particular attention paid to centralizing administrative processes and procedures for all programs involving minors on campus and improving efficiency and compliance;
• Expanding SPCE's collaboration with The Graduate School, with a focus on recruitment for online curriculum programs; and
• Increasing coordination between University Studies and SPCE in curricular programming and delivery.
• Representing the school to internal and external constituents and advocating for faculty and student interests through external fundraising.
• Developing new certificate and micro-credential programming to expand JMU's footprint and competitiveness in these areas.
The dean of SPCE reports directly to Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and serves on Academic Council, Academic Affairs' senior leadership team. This is a 12-month appointment.
