Overview
The Princeton Language and Intelligence Research Fellowship is a newly established postdoctoral research fellowship for people who have recently received or are about to receive a Ph.D. or doctorate degree and work on large AI models.
Princeton Language and Intelligence (PLI) seeks to develop fundamental understanding of large AI models; enable their application to research and education across academic disciplines; and study societal and ethical implications of AI as well as develop methods to avert any harms. PLI is committed to keeping AI expertise and know-how in the public sphere. Member faculty hail from more than a dozen departments, representing the sciences, humanities, social sciences, and engineering.
About
Princeton Language and Intelligence Research Fellows will be part of the PLI core principles and design team, composed of best-in-class faculty, research scientists, research software engineers, postdoctoral research fellows, and graduate students. Fellows will have access to PLI’s $9.6M GPU cluster (300 H100s), among the largest machine learning computer cluster in academia. PLI also offers seed grants to enable advances in AI-related research in the humanities, social sciences, natural sciences and engineering, along with research on the effects of AI on society (ethics, fairness, safety).
Princeton Language and Intelligence Research Fellows receive a yearly salary of $100,000, plus benefits, equipment, compute resources, and $10,000 in yearly research support. Appointments are for one year, with the possibility of renewal for a second year. The fellowship commences on or about September 1, 2024.
Fellows will be active participants in the wider PLI community, supporting the PLI mission and partaking in its activities, including workshops, seminars, and events. Fellows will have the opportunity to engage with faculty and students across disciplines.
