The School of Information Sciences (iSchool) at the University of Illinois invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position at all ranks. We welcome applications in the broad areas of data curation and responsible data science, including but not limited to:
- Data curation for and with AI
- Data cleaning and wrangling
- FAIR (findable, accessible, interoperable, and reusable) data management
- FATE (fairness, accountability, transparency, ethics) for data curation
- Data governance and policy
- Research and scientific data management and practices
- Civic and community data practices
- Linked open data, ontologies, and knowledge graphs
- Knowledge representation and reasoning
- Information modeling and metadata
- Digital curation and preservation
- Data ethics, stewardship, and justice
We are seeking candidates who will excel in an interdisciplinary academic unit at one of the nation’s premier land-grant research universities. Successful applicants must demonstrate the potential to conduct world-class research, teach effectively in undergraduate, professional, and doctoral programs, and contribute to our mission of advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion. Applicants must hold a Ph.D. or equivalent by the time of appointment.
The iSchool at Illinois tackles society’s most urgent challenges related to information, its practices, and technologies. Our faculty are global experts in such areas as foundations, organization, and history of information; data curation, data science and reproducibility; digital libraries; information access and policy; human computer interaction; AI; and network science, to name a few.
The iSchool at Illinois is home to an interdisciplinary doctoral program in information sciences and the top-ranked professional master’s program in library and information science. We also offer professional master’s programs in information management and bioinformatics, a licensure program in school librarianship, as well as undergraduate degrees in information science and data science that reimagine a liberal arts education for a global information society. This is a 100% full-time tenure-track faculty position, appointed on a 9-month basis. The expected start date is August 16, 2024. Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
