Position Title: Professor of Practice of Cybersecurity Department Computer Science, Math & Physics Appointment 9 Months Tenure Status Non Tenure Track FLSA Exempt Job Summary

Missouri Western State University's College of Science and Health and the Department of Mathematics, Physics and Computer Science invites applications for a non-tenure track full-time Professor of Practice of Cybersecurity beginning in Fall 2024 (August 15, 2024).

The successful candidate for this position will hold a Masters or Ph.D. in Cybersecurity, Network Technology, or a closely related field.

Successful applicants will join MWSU and its stakeholders as the campus opens the Convergent Technology Alliance Center (CTAC) and the Computational Infusion for Missouri Undergraduate Science and Engineering (CIMUSE), a state wide consortium of undergraduate institutions to increase high-performance computing capacity among primarily undergraduate institutions (PUIs) in the state of Missouri. These resources, alongside the campus' applied learning focus and connection to business, industry, and government create an ideal environment for cybersecurity and computer science faculty seeking to both teach and conduct research.

Essential Job Duties

Duties for candidates for Professor of Practice position include performance of activities corresponding with the teaching and service expectations for the department and college.

We seek colleagues with disciplinary expertise and professional experience in cybersecurity, an aptitude for exceptional teaching, and the potential for productive collaboration with the region, community, and our external partners. The Professor of Practice position is primarily a teaching position with an emphasis on industry experience and knowledge.

Successful candidates will:
  • Demonstrate disciplinary and professional expertise in the cybersecurity, informatics, cyber risks, policy strategy.
  • Exhibit a desire to collaborate and build relationships with colleagues, the region, the community, and industry partners.
  • Demonstrate a willingness to serve on department committees, attend department meetings, and work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students from a wide range of disciplines, cultures, and academic backgrounds.

 

 
Instruction and Curriculum Development:
  • Teach courses based on the program curriculum using industry expertise and unique professional experience and in a manner that advances student knowledge.
  • Develop, assess, and improve courses. This may involve, but is not limited to, research and engagement with user groups, industry leaders, and other academic/higher education organizations.
  • Assist in the implementation and maintenance of a relevant, high quality curriculum.
  • Collaborate with external individuals and organizations to foster student opportunities for innovative practical experiences
  • Advise and mentor students
 
Student Recruitment and Program Promotion:
  • Provide program information to prospective students. Assist with promotional activities and conduct interviews.
  • Engage program alumni to recruit new students and guest lecturers, create networking opportunities.
  • Communicate with outside organizations to secure opportunities for student projects, case studies, internships, and employer recruiting

Required Qualifications

  • Masters or Ph.D. in Cybersecurity, Network Technology, or a closely related field, or a closely-related field.
  • Authorized to work in the United States.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Five to ten years industry experience
  • Industry-related professional designations such Security+, CISSP, and CISA.
  • Teaching or industry experience in areas related to cybersecurity and network security.
  • Success working with students and/or industry colleagues as an advisor, mentor, or internship supervisor.
  • Experience teaching undergraduate or adult learners.

Physical Demands Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time.
